It’s Time to Get Your Greek On
September’s a big month. It’s back to school for the kids, football season for the sports fans, pumpkin lattes for the coffee junkies and the Annual Yiasou Greek Festival for everyone seeking a fun, cultural experience with Gyros in hand.
The festival, which starts today, September 10th, has been voted the Best Cultural Event in Charlotte by Charlotte Magazine and Elevate Lifestyle, as well as numerous other publications.
Located at the beautiful Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on East Boulevard in the heart of Dilworth, this food frenzy boasts everything from Roasted Lamb, freshly made Dolmades, Baklava Sundaes and Loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) to a Bakaliko Grocery Store and Greek Wine Tasting.
No time to stop in but dreaming of tatziki sauce? “Drive up” for your favorite Greek specialty on Winthrop Avenue between East Boulevard and East Worthington Avenue. A Drive-thru menu is available online for your convenience and faster service.
In addition to amazing food, The Yiasou (Greek word for Hello, Goodbye & Cheers) Festival features Hellenic cultural exhibits, entertainment, art, shopping and more. Visit The Warriors of Greece Room and have your picture taken with a Spartan Warrior or head to the Children’s Play Land area complete with face painting, wax hand caricatures and many popular rides including the Swing Ride, Helicopter Ride and Jurassic Adventure.
Live entertainment will take place on two outdoor stages and will feature sounds of the bouzouki, traditional Greek folk dancing by Holy Trinity’s youth who sing and play the instruments of their ancestral villages and much more. Tours and lectures on the history of the Holy Trinity Cathedral will be given every hour on the hour except Saturday 3:00 PM.
Festival admission is $3.00
