No, it is probably not easy for you to get to. No, you will not be dining at the new see and be seen restaurant in town. No, you will probably not need a reservation. Yes, your meal at Ben Thanh will be extremely fresh and delicious.

We started off with Summer Rolls with shrimp, mint, bean sprouts, lettuce, and rice noodles. These were brought to us with peanut sauce and fresh greens for mixing with various dishes.

Ben Thanh RestaurantThe Owner Ben is easy to find and is about as hands on as it gets. I asked for his reccomendation and put my culinary experience in his hands. He brought out this first.

That, simply put, is a Vietnamese pancake. This tasty concoction is made with rice flour, then stuffed with shrimp, sliced pork, bean sprouts. Then you are able to roll up your own mint and greens. For our next course we went with Vermicelli, Bun Tom, ThitHuong, ChaGio. For the few of my readers that are not fluent in Vietnamese, this means a combination of pork, shrimp, an imperial roll vermicelli, lettuce, cucumber, bean sprouts, and sweet & sour sauce.

I was also informed that I should not leave the premises without trying the House Special Hot Pot Com Tay Cam. This dish is a soup on steroids stuffed full of Shrimp, beef, roasted pork, chicken, mixed veggies, stirfried and baked tomato flavored rice.
