When I found out today that the New Orleans Hornets were switching their nickname to the Pelicans I just had to go find a Big Easy restaurant here in the Queen City. I took Legacy colleague Rodney Faulkner, who we call the mayor because he knows everybody, to Bite Your Tongue. Rodney not only knew BYT owner Lucius Johnson but 2 out of the 4 people in the restaurant. I had been trying to get to BYT ever since Newk's owner and New Orleans transplant Justin Karas told me about it.
First the obvious issue the restaurant has, it's location. It is hidden. It is located in the back of a building at the Bland Station light rail stop. You get to it from South Blvd but you can't see it from the road. The address is 222 East Bland Street. BYT has many New Orleans features incorporated into the decor. You go to a restaurant for the food and BYT delivered authentic New Orleans cuisine. The search for BYT is well worth it.
I went with the Roast Beef PoBoy and the Crab Fries which takes you right back to the French Quarter.
Rodney went with the special of the day which was a Pasta and Chicken dish with a Cornbread Biscuit. BYT features a daily lunch special. The table next to us got the Red Beans and Rice and the Shrimp Creole which looked delicious. On my next trip I will also be getting the Beignets which are deep fried and covered with powdered sugar. Bite Your Tongue deserves to be discovered by Charlotte.
Cool local place. You need to try it. Owners were displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
Love this place. I hope it makes it. Charlotte should support the local guy.
That PoBoy brings me back to Bourbon Street.
