Firehouse Subs Founder Stops by Charlotte
Firehouse Subs Founder Rob Sorenson stopped by Charlotte and met with local bloggers this past Tuesday at the Epicentre. That is Rob on the right with me. Rob founded the popular sandwich shop in 1994 with his brother Chris. The first location was in Jacksonville, Florida and they financed the store with a loan from his mother in law. Talk about pressure. They had zero business experience and had never even heard of food or labor costs. Their goal was just to make a better sub than anybody else. They had no other plan. Sounds simple? Now 29 years later they have 687 Firehouse Sub Restaurants. They did something right.
Rob told us the Fireshouse secret is they use better ingredients than their sandwich competitors. They also use double the meat of the industry leader (Subway) on their subs. Firehouse also steams their subs to enhance the flavor.
Local Firehouse franchisee Justin Scotto hosted about 10 bloggers for an entertaining, informative discussion of the brand. Justin owns 6 Charlotte Firehouse restaurants. Rob was the Keynote Speaker and he was funny and self-deprecating as he touched on many subjects including his hometown Jacksonville Jaguars and their woeful record. If anyone wants a Firehouse red bucket (shown above) and a free t-shirt drop us a line at Restaurant Traffic. We also have some $10 Firehouse Gift Cards which we will hand out in a contest in the future.
