It could be the best new festival Charlotte has to offer. The Moo & Brew burger and beer festival at the NC Music Factory was the ultimate indulgence this weekend with hundreds of beers (mostly local) on tap, as well as hard ciders and wines. Add to that the multiple burger options from restaurants around the city, and by the end at 6 p.m. on Saturday, many of the festival goers were in need of long naps. We spotted one man who hadn’t waited to get home to sprawl out on a lawn chair and pass out. It was the type of festival that really reminded us why Charlotte is such a cool city.

People were polite, the food was cheap and delicious (and copious), the beer was cold and the music was loud. There really aren’t any other qualifications for a good time. Our interest was in some of the burgers local eateries were offering, though we partook in a few (dozen) beer tastings. There was the pimiento cheese burger from Bang Bang Burgers, a pork belly kimchi burger from Pint Central, as well as barbecue burgers, triple decker patties and even vegetarian beet burgers from The Vinyl Pi.

Local band Ancient Cities opened the day with melodious riffs, and Langhorne Slim closed the afternoon out with his twangy heartland-inspired jamming that got the beer-and-burger-filled onlookers dancing. Attendees were given a voting token with their tasting glass as the entrance to give to a participating restaurant to be tallied up at the end to decide Creative Loafing Charlotte‘s best burger winner. By the end of the event, Bang Bang Burgers had been declared the winning burger and given the most appropriate trophy—a massive burger. Do not miss this event next year. It is only going to get better.

For the vegetarians, Pint Central had a NC beet slider grilled with a secret base and topped with local goat cheese, balsamic reduction and arugula.
