Hoist a Stein at OMB This Holiday Season

Hoist a Stein at OMB This Holiday Season

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is kicking off the month of December with two German-inspired, beer-infused holiday events. For those of you who enjoy a nice seasonal, winter brew or two (tis the season to be jolly) and are looking for the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit, you won’t want to miss both their Yule Bock Release & Christmas Tree Lighting, or for those bilingually blessed, the 6th Annual Weihnachtsmarkt.

This Thursday (12/3) OMB will begin the holidays with their Yule Bock Release. The Yule Bock, also called a Weihnachtsbock or Christmas Bock, is known as a traditional German holiday beer. During the event, OMB will also be celebrating the start of the holidays by lighting the trees located in the Brauhaus and Biergarten. The event starts at 5 p.m.

The following two evenings (12/4 & 12/5) you can enjoy the first weekend of OMB’s 6th Annual Weihnachtsmarkt. This traditional German-inspired Christmas Market will be selling both baked goods and gifts from 30 local vendors. All winter beers will also be available on tap, including the Dunkel, Bauern Bock and Yule Bock. For all of your non-beer drinking friends, they will also be serving their homemade Glühwein, described as “a delicious, spiced red wine served hot and fresh”.

If you can’t attend the event opening weekend or if you enjoyed it so much the first time that you want to go again and again, don’t fret, the festivities will continue going on the following two weekends: Dec. 11-12 and 18-19. Friday hours are 4 – 9 p.m. and Saturday hours are 2 – 9 p.m. The brewery is located at 4150 Yancey Road.

Both events will have lots of tasty, seasonal beer to go around so bring your friends, grab your steins and start spreading some old-fashioned, German-inspired Yuletide cheer.

In pursuit of the finest meals, craft beers and culinary experiences that the Queen City has to offer.
