Mimosa Grill: Night One of CLT Restaurant Week

Mimosa Grill: Night One of CLT Restaurant Week

TGIF and a happy kick off to Charlotte Restaurant Week, friends.

All week I’ve been sitting at my desk, drooling over the delicious Restaurant Week menus, and counting down the minutes (very similar to a child the night before Christmas
). Of course, being a food blogger can get tough sometimes staring at food all day long, especially working on an empty stomach. After seeing all that Restaurant Week has to offer this year, choosing an establishment was a challenge. Previously having dined at Mickey & Mooch, 5Church, and Café Siena for Restaurant Week, I wanted to choose somewhere new, yet just as delicious.

After finally making my decision, I called for an Uber and headed Uptown for an exciting meal at one of the finest eating establishments in all of the QC, the Mimosa Grill.

As most of you already know, establishments participating in Restaurant Week have a set menu to choose from and include three-courses for $30. While it’s just another week to eat out for some, others get to experience restaurants that may not typically be in their price point. For many people, this is a week to try out new places and force you to try different options as opposed to the typical creature-of-habit scenario.

Hardly able to wait any longer, I ordered my first item right away: Lobster Macaroni & Cheese. Made with the perfect combination of creamy cheddar cheeses, ‘butter-poached Maine lobster bites’, and crumbled RITZ crackers on top. Although it wasn’t as ‘melt in your mouth’ as I would have hoped, it still was delicious and a great pick.

Next up, my favorite part about Charlotte Restaurant Week; the main entrĂ©e. Absolutely torn between one of my favorite meals (steak and potatoes) and my love for Italian food (butternut squash raviolis), I could hardly make up my mind. Not to mention, choosing between a handful of all extremely appetizing items is never easy. Ending up with the Wood-Grilled “1855” Black Angus Strip Steak served with Yukon potatoes and hickory-grilled vegetables, I could not have been more pleased. Both the steak and the potatoes were perfectly rich and topped with a garlic butter that made my mouth water for more.

After devouring every last bite of my dinner, it took all that I could to take another bite of anything else. Not typically a dessert person, I enjoyed the feeling of “having” to order dessert. I decided to end my delicious, yet very rich, meal with something a little more on the sweeter side. The Mountain Apple Tasting: apple turnover/hard cider reduction, caramel apple gelato/crispy oat topping, black apple cheesecake/caramelized apples. Although it was a bit on the smaller side, it definitely wasn’t lacking on the flavor. The turnover mixed with black apple cheesecake was extremely satisfying for any apple pie or cheesecake lover.

Overall, my trip to the Mimosa Grill this Restaurant Week was a successful one. Everything from the lobster macaroni and cheese, to the wood-grilled steak, to the apple turnover, and not to mention their delicious drinks, made this restaurant choice worthwhile. I can’t wait to go back to try more items on the menu.

Happy Charlotte Restaurant Week to all and don’t forget to dine safely this week by riding with Uber. For all new Uber customers, you can apply the promo code “RESTAURANTTRAFFIC” for $20 off your first ride.
