Napa on Providence is conducting what the restaurant industry calls a "soft opening" this week. A soft opening consists of taking limited reservations and not doing any marketing or advertising to drive crowds into your restaurant. Restaurants do this to get the staff ready for the inevitable crush new restaurants experience when they open. Everybody wants to try a new restaurant and usually these new restaurants crash and burn. The kitchen goes down which means long ticket times and the guests get a proverbial bad taste in their mouth when the food takes forever to get to their table. Ruth's Chris franchisee Jeff and Paula Conway are the brains behind this California inspired restaurant. This will make 2 California inspired restaurants opening in the same week here in Charlotte with Vine American Kitchen also swinging open their doors in Ballantyne.
Great, now we have one California restaurant in Myers Park and one in Ballantyne. Providence Cafe was an institution. I hope this new group has as long a run.
You should never go to a new restaurant in the first 3-4 weeks. You need to let them figure things out and work out the growing pains. You will get a much better experience for your money.
OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This one will do better than the one in Ballantyne because people in this area have more money.
