The Peculiar Rabbit is hiring staff for their much anticipated opening. It seems the newest restaurant in Plaza Midwood has been under construction for years but these things take time. Parking (or lack of it) has been holding them up with the city. Charlotte requires you to have a certain amount of parking spaces for your patrons and to say The Peculiar Rabbit is going to be parking challenged would be an understatement. Their Facebook page says they are going to be a Gastropub with Geoff Bragg as the Executive Chef. They will have rooftop views of Uptown Charlotte which will be spectacular. We will keep you posted on the actual opening date.
I have driven by this place many times and wondered what was going to open there. It was a church before I believe. They have about 6 parking spaces on the side of this building. Where are people going to park or is Plaza Midwood a big pedestrian venue?
The views from the roof will be spectacular.
Things like this are one of the reasons I left Charlotte. The city does nothing to keep its history in place. I used to go to this building when it was the nightclub “The Steeple” It was amazing because it straight up still looked like a church inside in most every way except for the bottles of booze. They have ruined a gorgeous building. “I have an idea. Let’s tear down this historic and unique place and replace it with shiny metal and glass!”
It was a broken down church and these guys made it into a nice looking place which will also bring jobs to the area. The thing about church’s are they don’t add anything to the tax base since they do not pay any taxes. This business will pay many taxes which will increase services to the area.
Actually, the building that sat on the current new restaurant site had not been a church for over 30 years. It was a run down eyesore and hang out for addicts and smash and grab thieves used to hide behind the building so much that the police asked owner Rob could he put up a chain link fence to keep them out. While 60-70 folks could have been working, the city and county held up this beautiful and productive operation for over TWO YEARS. Congratulations, Rob and Andy. We wish you much success.
