I have known about Sheetz for a long time, way before they started building their unique gas stations in North Carolina. They are based in Altoona, Pennsylvania and that is also where my wife is from. So I was hearing about Sheetz and Yuengling Beer long before either one of them crossed state lines. Sheetz can best be described as a gas station/convenience store/restaurant on steroids. We have nothing like them in Charlotte. You can order food at one of their MTO stations while you are pumping gas and go pick your order up when you are through.
Here is one of their Made to Order (MTO) kiosks. They also have baristas that make your coffee how you want it. No more 12 hour old coffee in a dirty glass pot. Sheetz has food that you actually want to eat despite the fact that it is at a convenience store. Sheetz is just north of Charlotte already in Graham. They have 8 other stores in North Carolina. If you ever make it up to Altoona make sure you visit Kitchen & Gift too. (shameless plug-in laws own it)
love the MTO!!
OMG I love Sheetz. Please get them here.
I am a fan of Sheetz myself but we do have something similar to it called QT or QuikTrip…they are starting to make their appearance in and around the Charlotte area as well.
Sheetz and QuikTrip (out of OK City) have been rapidly racing towad Charlotte from opposite directions for the past several years…Sheetz from the Triangle/Triad, and QT from Atlanta and more recently, Upstate SC. QT has established a toehold already in the Charlotte market (as well as a regional headquarters), and they are aggressively tying up land for their stations in an attempt to stake out the market before Sheetz’ arrival. FYI…Sheetz also has stores closer to Charlotte already than the one you mentioned in Graham (which is not “just north of Charlotte” as you indicate…it is actually in Alamance County east of Greensboro). I believe that they are aready as far south down I-85 as the Advance/Lexington area…I do know that they have at least one store under construction currently in Davidson County. In my estimation, Sheetz has a great concept, but QT is very similar, and has beaten them to the punch thus far in getting into the Charlotte market.
So is Sheetz going to open in Charlotte or what? How about Royal Farms or WaWa? Graham isn’t all that close. Sheetz is already nearby in Statesville and Salisbury.
