We have been hearing rumors that owner Martin Sprock had been thinking about putting another concept in where his The Italian Pie restaurant was on East Blvd. Sprock who started Moe's Southwest Grill, The Flying Biscuit and Monkey Joe's and several other concepts has been trying to figure out his next thing. He bought the Charlotte favorite Penguin and also has an interest in Leroy Fox in Cotswold, he is looking for a winning concept. Well apparently The Italian Pie is not in his future plans as there are signs saying they are now closed for business. We liked the Italian Pie but it was an uphill battle taking on Brixx which is 100 yards away. We will let you know Sprock's next venture. Below is the sign on the door indicating they are now closed for business.
The pizza here was just OK which is tough when you take on a Charlotte institution like Brixx which is right down the road. Wonder what the next concept will be?
I don’t think having Mellow Mushroom on Montford helped them out either. It has a much cooler vibe. Also the Italian Pie building is kind of weird as the back has the low ceilings. The “karma” is all wrong with the restaurant setup. My two cents.
The problem with this place was the food was just average. With so many other options on East Blvd you can’t be average if you want to stay in business for long.
There’s a Mellow Mushroom on Montford now??
Sorry I meant the Mellow Mushroom on Selwyn Avenue which is right next to Montford. Anybody hear wow Al’s Pizza is doing at ParkeTowne Village?
We hear Al’s Pizza is struggling. Hope they right the ship.
The assistant manager at the Pie had unbelievable cannons. I’m going to miss those.
