Smalls Food & Spirits opened this week in the former NOFO site on Elizabeth Avenue.  We talked to owner Joe Dileo about him opening a restaurant about 6 months ago.  He hails from New York and had about 3 different concepts he was kicking around.  He finally settled on Smalls which was not one of the 3 concepts but he has seemed to have hit a home run judging by the talk we are hearing in the restaurant community.  Smalls has a chef inspired menu serving hand crafted food.  The interior has vibrant colors and colorful paintings on the wall.  The restaurant is loud and has a lot of energy.  Smalls is open for lunch and dinner.

Had a couple friends go here and they said it was great. Tough location but you never know. If the food is consistently good they will make it.

Went there last night and although the food is good the place is soooooo loud you can barely hear yourself think. I could not hear the person across the table speaking which is annoying.

My girlfriend and I went there the other night and we really enjoyed the whole experience. The food is great and i really liked what they did with the inside of the restaurant. We will be going back.

I checked it out last week and I can see how it gets loud but that is part of the fun about a restaurant. Do you want to go where it is dead and there is no energy? No.
