Halcyon Restaurant is the keystone restaurant in the new Duke Energy Center complex on South Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte.
According to the website "Halcyon, Flavors from the Earth is a celebration of artisinal farms, dairies and wineries from the Carolinas and beyond . . . a true seasonal dining experience featuring the creations of Chef Marc Jacksina"
Marc has been pleasing Charlotte foodies for years, notably at Lulu and Andrew Blair's. I have had the good fortune to dine in both of these restaurants and was understandably excited to try Marc's latest venue. He did ok for himself with this set up to say the least. The restaurant's setting is matched by it's spacious beauty.
Enough about sticks and bricks, we want to talk about the food.
The simply executed assortment of bread is served with red pepper pesto butter spread.
We were all tempted by assorted menu items but came to rest on a select few.
Three Little Pigs:Quince Glazed Heritage Pork Belly, Puy Lentils BLT Slider, and a House Smoked Pork Meatball served with Winter Greens
Poulet Plate: Herbed Chicken Confit, Quail Egg House Crafted Buttermilk Ricotta, Honey Warm Rustic Potato Salad with Bacon Thyme Dressing
I went a most seemingly pedestrian route for such a fine restaurant. Upon first glance the burger may seem an odd choice, but this burger is made from house ground short rib & chuck with black pepper aioli, green tomato chow chow and dressed local greens.
If you are heading Uptown looking for a restaurant to try, rest assured you will get a unique and local experience at Halcyon.
This restaurant looks beautiful.
Whoever reviewed that must work there. Not legitimate. We found it overpriced, underseasoned and slow
