Charotte Metro Boom! Kind of…

I posted earlier this week about the national restaurant growth index. During the article I mentioned that the Charlotte Metro Area population was +- 1,400,000 people. Apparently I fabricated this number… There was a quick backlash of facts and figures thrown about. Contrary to my usual strategy, I decided to do some research. I still don’t know what the number is, but the boys at CLTBlog recently posted this article claiming that the number has swelled to 2,300,000 souls!

Before we start claiming to be the next Manhattan, it seems the steep incline was due more to a boundary redraw than an influx of humans. Either way, I’m a Charlotte homer and will shout this number from the virtual mountaintop.

My passion for great food, service, live music, and beer/wine/bourbon (not necessarily in that order) makes this type of work pretty entertaining.

  1. There is nothing “Kind of” about it. The realignment was based on very real statistical changes. Its based on the commuting patterns of the county population. There are enough people in those counties that they are worthy of being considered an active member of the Charlotte Metro Area. Also 1,400,000 was the number years and years ago.
