The City Kitch…Where Charlotte Comes to Cook!
This week Lea & I had the opportunity to experience an exclusive preview of an exciting new Charlotte concept, The City Kitch. The City Kitch is a fully equipped commercial kitchen facility created with the goal to provide space and support for small food businesses in the Charlotte area. Carrie Hegnauer, longtime Senior Chef Instructor at Johnston and Wales, and her husband Dave Hegnauer have worked together to bring this concept to life. Carrie & Dave invited us for a tour of their facility (including a yummy dinner) to learn more about what they have in store for The City Kitch.
The City Kitch is located in a 12,000 square foot building with various services this space can offer and they are willing to accommodate food-focused clients in any way possible. The unique thing about The City Kitch is the vast variety of different small businesses that will have the opportunity to be brought together thanks to this concept. The company’s space can serve caterers, food trucks, pastry chefs, food producers, food artisans, event planners, culinary instructors, food photographers and that’s just the beginning. The space will also be available for shorter term rentals for programs such as children’s summer camps or single day events such as an intimate dinner party that would benefit from a venue offering access to a large commercial kitchen.
Carrie and Dave treated our group to a delicious dinner at the end of our tour. On the menu was chilled fruit soup, bacon wrapped pork mignon, and a dessert trio consisting of mandarin orange cake, chocolate raspberry boca, and finally a blueberry cheesecake beggar’s purse. It was one of the best meals that I have had this summer and it was the perfect way to wrap up a wonderful evening learning about the exciting new venture, The City Kitch.
The City Kitch is still in the process of renovating their space but Restaurant Traffic is excited to return for the grand opening later this summer. Stay tuned for more updates!
